Irving Penn, an American photographer (1917 - 2009) was amongst the first photographers to post subject against a grey or white backdrop and was able to portray it very effectively. Well known for potraiture and fashion. His works were at MOMA, National Gallery of Art Washington DC, National Potrait Gallery London and many more.
